Today we travel to Bennington, Vermont. A pretty little town set in a valley in the foothills of the Green Mountains.   Our hotel is the Hampton Inn. L

 

monday AUGUST 26

We’ll stop this morning at the Bennington Battle Monument, the tallest structure in Vermont, celebrating the battle victory between Gen. John Stark (American) and Gen. John Burgoyne (British). Then on to Hildene, the Lincoln family home. Explore this beautiful 24 room estate and the formal gardens that frame it, built as a summer home in 1905 by Robert Todd Lincoln, Lincoln’s only son to live to maturity. It was home to only Lincoln descendants until 1975, longer than any other Lincoln residence. After lunch at Hildene, a visit to the Vermont Country Store-hard to find products and quality merchandise from around the block and around the world. Our hotel will be the Comfort Inn. tuesday AUGUST 27

This morning we visit the Ben & Jerry’s Factory and learn how they get so much deliciousness into every scoop!  You can cap off your visit with a walk through the Flavor Graveyard and pay your respects to the dearly de-pinted flavors of years past. Some time to browse the shops of Stowe Village with its “most photographed” church steeple and get lunch on your own.  We then go to Trapp Family Lodge for Afternoon Tea and our overnight. Later we’ll enjoy a Trapp History Tour, beginning with an overview of the von Trapp family history (actual vs movie version) and film of Maria von Trapp’s memories during her final visit to her former home is Salzburg, Austria. We cap off the evening with a dinner buffet at the new “Bierhall” overlooking the brewery where they make varieties of Trapp Family craft beers.  CD                                                                                                                                          

 

wednesday AUGUST 28

Beginning our journey westward, we travel to Alexandria Bay, New York to the Thousand Islands area. We explore the tranquil beauty of this area and revel in the historic charm of the Riveredge Resort.  Built on a steamboat wharf, it enjoys water vistas on three sides.  We’ll have a Two Nation Tour featuring a narrated tour offering enjoyment of historic and scenic wonders.  An optional stop at Boldt Castle on Heart Island.  B

 

thursday AUGUST 29

Today we continue homeward with an early evening arrival home.  Bringing with us fond memories and new friendships of this tour. B
