Mackinac Island Lilac Festival
June 9-12, 2018
SATURDAY JUNE 9
We begin our journey today, traveling at one of the prettiest times of the year. Our overnight is in Mackinaw City, Michigan. Strolling around will give you a sense of the beauty of the area. Off in the distance you can watch traffic on the Mighty Mac Bridge. One of the world’s most beautiful bridges and the longest suspension bridge in the Americas. Much of the beauty comes from the setting at the Straits of Mackinac. The Straits link Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. The 5 mile long bridge links Michigan’s Lower and Upper peninsulas.
SUNDAY JUNE 10
This morning we will board the Star Ferry to Mackinac Island. June on the island means just one thing….the lilacs are in bloom. Mackinac Island has a microclimate that provides premium conditions to grow lilacs. The purple beauties that grow here are larger and live longer than most everywhere else in the United States. Relive the simple pleasures of life. We’ll have a carriage tour of the island and a fabulous lunch in the beautiful Grand Hotel. Casual clothing is the norm during the day, however, please no midriff baring tops (women,) sleeveless shirts (men,) sweat pants or cut-off shorts. CL
MONDAY JUNE 11
A tour of Mackinaw City this morning. This charming town with history galore is often overlooked as people head to the more famous Mackinac Island. If time permits we may ride across the Mighty Mac. Then we travel to Frankenmuth, MI. Bronner’s Christmas Store beckons us. The largest store of its kind, it will amaze you with the variety of items to see. Overnight at the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth. B
