The Hampton Experience | Long Island, New York

June 18-21, 2018

We leave this morning to go to an area that many of the rich & famous discovered years ago and have used as homes and summer retreats because of its beauty and closeness to New York City. Our overnight for a 3 night stay is the Hyatt Place in Riverhead, NY. L

We will meet our guide in historic Southampton Village this morning. It’s the oldest English settlement in New York State. We will stop at Cooper’s Beach and some shopping time in Southampton Village. Then it’s on to Montauk, traveling through the magnificent neighborhoods of Bridgehampton, Sagaponack (America’s most expensive zip code,) and East Hampton.  From Steven Spielberg to Ina Garten we find out who lives in many of these homes.  Lunch on your own in Montauk Harbor.  After lunch, we will go to the tip of Long Island for a visit to the Montauk Lighthouse. On our return, we will stop at the East Hampton Ladies Village Improvement Society Thrift Shop where many celebrated locals donate items that are practically new. A stop at Tanger Mall this evening.  C

Our guide meets us at the hotel today.  We pass the famous Big Duck monument, to Hampton Bays and past the Shinnecock Indian Reservation to Conscience Point, the exact location where the English Settlers landed in 1640. Then on to the historic port of Sag Harbor, once the home of whaling ships, now the home of yachts. We will visit the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum and the Old Whaler’s Church.  Lunch on our own in Sag Harbor Village, then we board the Shelter Island ferry to the North Fork of Long Island. Traveling back to Riverhead we pass magnificent vineyards and the almost 40 wineries that make the North Fork one of the most beautiful parts of New York State. We stop at the Baiting Hollow Winery and Horse rescue for a taste of delicious wine and a view of the horses rescued by the family.  Dinner included this evening at Jerry and The Mermaids. CD

Wishing we had more time here, we regretfully turn our motor coach homeward. A stop at Grand Central Terminal in New York City for you to gaze at the beautiful interior and have lunch on your own. Looking back on the wonderful sights and sounds of the entire Hampton area. A late evening arrival home is expected. C
